Carmageddon Countdown: LAPD urges workers to telecommute Friday, stay off roads

Carmageddon

"Carmageddon" and the full 405 Freeway shutdown may not take effect until midnight, but Los Angeles police and transportation officials are urging people to stay off the freeways on Friday.

Onramps and offramps on the 405 between the 10 and the 101 freeways will begin closing at 7 p.m. and traffic is expected to be heavy Friday afternoon as people try to make it home or out of town before the three-day closure.

So, good news for workers: LAPD Commander Andy Smith says you should stay home from work and telecommute.

"We did advise everybody who didn't have to travel to not travel on Friday," Smith said. "Anybody that can stay home, businesses included, and your folks can telecommute, that would be great."

If you've already made your way in to work, perhaps now is the time to remind your boss you should be allowed to leave work early.
