Boy, 6, sexually molested in public park bathroom, officials say
Authorities are looking for a man who allegedly molested a 6-year-old boy in a public bathroom at a Pico Rivera park Saturday.
The boy reported being molested at 2:37 p.m. in a stall of the restroom at Rio Hondo Park, where he had come for a soccer match, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Michael Thomas. The boy immediately told his mother and pointed out the suspect, whom witnesses saw fleeing in a white van with a license plate that started with "6J," Thomas said.
Witnesses described the man as white, a little over 6 feet tall and about 200 pounds, with tattoos on his neck and one arm, wearing a headband with a Mexican flag on it. Thomas said no sketch of the suspect was available Sunday morning.
Rio Hondo is a city park but is patrolled by deputies from the sheriff's Pico Rivera Station, who have beefed up patrols in the wake of the attack and in light of the holiday weekend, officials said.
"The park is open, the restroom is open, and we are doing extra patrols not just there but in all the parks," said Sheriff's Sgt. Dee Gallego, who is based at Pico Rivera Station.
