Schwarzenegger now open to spousal support for Maria Shriver

After a checked box in his divorce filing drew much hoopla last week, former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has withdrawn a request that no spousal support be awarded to his wife of 25 years, Maria Shriver.

Monday, in an amended response to Shriver's divorce petition, Schwarzenegger changed his initial request that the court not award support to his wife. The new filing also said he would pay attorney fees and legal costs. Last week's filing had asked that the fees be paid jointly.

The filing, a form response, gave no reason for the change in Schwarzenegger's position. Shriver filed for divorce earlier this month after the former governor admitted to having fathered a child with a household staffer more than a decade ago.

Shriver had requested support, and for fees and costs to be paid by her husband.
