Worker killed in BP refinery accident in Carson

June 22, 2011 | 12:40 pm

Untitled1 One worker died Wednesday in an accident at the BP refinery in Carson, a company spokesman said.

It was unclear what caused the 8 a.m. accident at the refinery near Wilmington Avenue and Sepulveda Boulevard.

The accident occurred near the tracks of the train system that transports butane and other materials through the refinery, said company spokesman Walter Neil.

“To lose one of our family members to such a tragic accident is devastating for all of us,” Neil said.

The worker was killed on scene. His name has not been released, but he was described as a longtime employee.

Among the agencies investigating the accident are the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Cal/OSHA.
