Santa Clarita woman killed, two critically injured in Colorado River boating crash

A Santa Clarita woman was killed and two other people were critically injured when a boat they were in crashed into the shoreline of the Colorado River south of Lake Havasu.

Gregory Kettelkamp, 20, of Santa Clarita, was behind the wheel of his Ski Centurion motorboat with eight passengers when the vessel struck the riverbank about 10:26 p.m. Sunday, according to a statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Kettelkamp had been driving southbound at 25 mph to 35 mph in the Parker Strip area south of Emerald Cove Resort. The impact of the crash threw several passengers from the vessel.

Brittany Stark, 21, of Santa Clarita, was taken to La Paz Regional Hospital in Parker, Ariz., where she was pronounced dead.

Two other passengers sustained “major injuries” and were flown to Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix. The remaining passengers were treated for unspecified injuries at La Paz Regional Hospital and released.

Investigators had not determined what caused the accident and whether alcohol was a factor.
