June 2, 2011 |  8:14 am

Garton A viewing is scheduled Thursday in Cypress for a Hawthorne police motorcycle officer killed in a crash while assisting in a funeral escort for a fellow officer.

Andrew Garton, 44, was killed May 26 when he collided with an El Segundo motorcycle officer at 227th Street and Hawthorne Boulevard in Torrance. The officers were part of a motorcade for a Manhattan Beach police officer who died earlier in May.

The incident is still under investigation.

The viewing for Garton, a married father of two sons, ages 7 and 12, and a police force veteran for almost eight years, comes the day before a memorial and burial is planned for the officer.

The viewing will be from 4 to 9 p.m. at Seacoast Grace Church, 5100 Cerritos Ave.

The memorial is to begin at the same church Friday at 12:30 p.m., followed by  Garton’s burial at Forest Lawn Memorial-Park at 4771 Lincoln Ave. Cypress.

The Hawthorne Police Officers Assn. has established a trust for Garton’s family. Donations can be made at the Western Federal Credit Union, 14500 S. Aviation Blvd., Hawthorne.
