Sylmar man charged with killing his father with car

Sylmarcar
A 26-year-old Sylmar man was charged Friday with murder and attempted murder after he allegedly ran his brother over and killed his father with a car following an argument.

Martin Martinez, who uses a wheelchair, got into an argument Tuesday evening with two of his brothers at the family home, authorities said.

Prosecutors say he then got behind the wheel of a car and drove it at one of his brothers, hitting him and his father.

The father died at the scene. His brother suffered fractures to both legs.

If convicted, Martinez faces 28 years to life in prison, said Deputy Dist. Atty. June Chung of the Family Violence Division.

Prosecutors planned to ask that Martinez's bail be set at $2 million.
