Suspect arrested in fatal shooting of boy, 2, and his uncle in South L.A.

June 23, 2011 | 10:26 pm

Joshua Montes Federal marshals arrested a Lancaster man who is wanted in connection with the deadly shooting of a 2-year-old boy and his uncle in South Los Angeles.

Jaquain Smith, 18, was tackled to ground as he tried to run away after marshals staked out his home in Lancaster, authorities said.

He is suspected of taking part in the fatal shooting of Joshua Montes and his uncle, Josefat Canchola, who were outside the family home last month in the 1200 block of East 55th Street, police said.

Both were struck in the head and died after they were taken to a hospital.

The bullets, police said, had been intended for rival gang members.

Davion McClelland, 18, was charged earlier this month with two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder involving the intended targets, authorities said.
