This post has been corrected. See the note at the bottom for details.

An inmate died while in custody at the Los Angeles County sheriff’s Palmdale station Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Officials were releasing no information on the cause or circumstances of the death.

Sheriff’s homicide investigators have been dispatched to the station where the inmate was pronounced dead.

The inmate’s identity was not immediately available.

For the record, 3:20 p.m. June 29: Information from the Sheriff’s Department that an inmate died at the Palmdale station was incorrect. The individual was located elsewhere and was taken to a hospital nearby, where he was pronounced dead, said Capt. Mike Parker.

The cause of death and whether the individual was in custody at any point are still unclear.
