Psychiatric patient jumps from sixth floor of Olive View-UCLA Medical Center
A psychiatric patient jumped out of the sixth floor of Olive View-UCLA Medical Center on Wednesday, suffering traumatic injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, according to people familiar with the situation.
Initial reports indicate that the patient used his body to shatter the double-paned window before falling from the county hospital's psychiatric unit. One pane was made of plexiglass, and the other was made of shatter-resistant glass.
Michael Wilson, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, which operates Olive View-UCLA, said that he could confirm only that the patient jumped out of the window, and that the county is investigating the incident.
Olive View-UCLA is in Sylmar in the northern San Fernando Valley.
