O.C. anesthesiologist faces arraignment in sex assault of unconscious patients

Yashwant Balgiri Giri An Orange County anesthesiologist is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday on charges that he sexually assaulted two female patients while they were unconscious, authorities said.

Yashwant Balgiri Giri, 58, who worked at Placentia-Linda Hospital, is charged with molesting a 16-year-old girl while a nurse was preparing surgery tools and not watching, according to the Orange County district attorney's office.

Although not watching initially, the nurse then witnessed the incident and alerted hospital supervisors. Giri was also allegedly caught fondling a 36-year-old woman during surgery.

Giri allegedly assaulted the victims in 2009 and in March, according to prosecutors. He is scheduled to be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. in the North Justice Center in Fullerton.
