Marine from Camp Pendleton killed in Afghanistan; sixth from his battalion

Marines A Marine from Camp Pendleton has been killed in combat in Afghanistan, the Pentagon announced Wednesday.

Lance Cpl. John F. Farias, 20, of New Braunfels, Texas, was killed Tuesday in Helmand province. He was part of the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, from Camp Pendleton.

Farias is the sixth Marine from his battalion killed since April. The battalion is assigned to the Sangin region, a Taliban stronghold.
