Man shot his teenage sons before setting house on fire and killing himself, police say

Chula Vista police said a man shot his teenage sons to death before setting his house on fire and then killing himself.

Firefighters were called to scene about 1:30 a.m. on Bonita Verde Drive in southern San Diego County after neighbors reported seeing smoke coming from the house, authorities said.

The unidentified man was found in the bedroom of the house and the two boys -– ages 13 and 15 –- were found in the hallway, authorities said. The mother of the boys does not live at the residence but showed up later at the scene, officials said.

Fire and police investigators remain at the scene.
