L.A. County Supervisor Yaroslavsky fears prolonged fight between Dodgers and MLB

Kn5bk4nc Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky said Monday he was worried that the Los Angeles Dodgers' bankruptcy filing may set the stage for a prolonged fight.

“We’ve had a contest of wills between Frank McCourt and his wife Jamie for some 18 months,” Yaroslavsky said. “Now it’s a contest of wills between McCourt and the commissioner of baseball. I don’t know who benefits from that.”

Yaroslavsky declined to directly fault McCourt for his stewardship of the team, but he said “the attendance at the ball games has plummeted. People are voting with their feet with this thing. Something has to give.”

Yaroslavsky was at the stadium Sunday to throw out the first pitch in honor of the nonprofit Los Angeles Universal Preschool, and he said he was saddened to see thousands of empty seats.

“I threw a pitch and then they went bankrupt, so I don’t know if I’ll be asked again,” Yaroslavsky joked.
