Four from Long Beach killed in single-vehicle accident in Ventura County

Four Long Beach residents were killed Saturday morning when the truck they were in veered off the northbound 101 Freeway near La Conchita in Ventura County and crashed into a tree, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Phet Chansy, 53, was driving a pickup and towing a small boat shortly before 3:30 a.m., when he was believed to have had a heart attack and passed out, said Senior Deputy Medical Examiner Armando Chavez.

Chansy's wife, Holly Hamm, 40, and son, Eric Chansy, 11, also died in the crash. A family friend, Monica Sang, 45, was critically injured and taken to a hospital, where she later died, according to the Highway Patrol.

The couple's 13-year-old son suffered minor injuries, including a fractured arm.
