Anthony Smith, ex-Raiders defensive end, to stand trial in murder case

Anthony_smith Former Raiders defensive end Anthony Wayne Smith and two alleged associates have been ordered to stand trial in connection with a 2008 homicide.

Prosecutors allege that Smith, 43, of Fontana; Charles Eric Honest, 41, of Los Angeles; and Dewann Wesley White, 32, of Bloomington, murdered Maurilio Ponce on Oct. 7, 2008.

Ponce was beaten and shot several times before his body was dumped near Antelope Valley poppy fields, about 11 miles west of Lancaster.

Wayne was arrested earlier this year.

He played for the Raiders through most of the 1990s. At the time of the slaying, prosecutors said, he was living in Marina del Rey.
