Delta flight to LAX returns safely to Atlanta after reporting engine fire

A Delta Airlines flight headed to Los Angeles International Airport from Atlanta on Monday night reported an engine fire on departure and returned to Atlanta, where it landed safely, according to preliminary information from federal officials.

Flight 1323, a Boeing 757, landed in Atlanta about 9:15 p.m. Pacific Time, said FAA spokesman Ian Gregor.

No other details were immediately available.
