Building evacuated at USC Health Sciences Campus after hazardous-materials spill [Updated]
A building at USC’s Health Sciences Campus was evacuated Thursday because of a hazardous-material spill, a USC public safety official said.
[Updated at 4:33 p.m.: University officials said the spill had been contained, Officials expect to reopen at least part of the building shortly while cleanup continues on the second floor, said Leslie Ridgeway, a spokeswoman for USC’s Health Sciences Campus.]
It was unclear what type of hazardous material spilled in one of the upper floors of the building, said Capt. David Carlisle, a spokesman for USC’s Department of Public Safety.
Agencies responding to the incident include the Los Angeles Fire Department and personnel from USC’s Environmental Health and Safety department, Carlisle said.
