Firefighters battle blaze south of Apple Valley in San Bernardino County [Updated]

Firefighters were battling a brush fire Thursday night that had scorched at least 40 acres in the High Desert of San Bernardino County.

The blaze was burning in rugged terrain near Juniper Flats Road south of Apple Valley, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.

[Updated at 11:09 p.m.: The fire has grown to about 75 acres and is threatening stuctures in the Bowen Ranch area, officials said.]

The blaze was reported about 6:30 p.m. There were no reports of injuries or damaged structures.

The cause was under investigation.
