Woman whose body was found on freeway may have been hit by a taxi, authorities say

Authorities are investigating the death of a woman who they say was apparently walking along the southbound 57 Freeway in Anaheim when she was struck and killed by a taxi.

The woman's body was discovered shortly after 8.30 p.m. Wednesday between the carpool and No. 1 lanes near Orangewood Avenue, said CHP Officer Denise Quesada.

A taxi driver called authorities and said he believed he had hit a pedestrian, Quesada said. He pulled over to the right of the freeway, and when CHP officers arrived, "they found a female deceased at the scene," Quesada said.

It was not clear whether the woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was trying to commit suicide or whether she was struck by one motorist or multiple times, Quesada said.

"It is still under investigation," she said.

Quesada said that numerous drivers reported seeing a pedestrian in the roadway, and one of the calls came in around the same time the woman was hit. But it was unclear whether the person spotted on the freeway was the same female who was later found dead, Quesada said.
