Tornadoes touch down in Northern California, cause some damage
At least two tornadoes touched down near Chico in Northern California on Wednesday, causing some damage to structures but no injuries.
The National Weather Service had warned of possible tornadoes on Wednesday afternoon along with hail, winds and heavy rain. Local officials said as many as four tornadoes may have touched down around Chico and surrounding communities, but it was difficult to tell for sure.
Albert Aston, who lives 100 feet from where the tornado hit, told Fox 40 News Sacramento that the only damaged he sustained was a broken window on his house. "It sounded like somebody shot a shotgun," he told the station. "I looked out and stuff was going in every direction."
A barn nearby in Butte County was destroyed by the storm.
The storms prompted the weather service on Wednesday to issue what officials described as fairly rare tornado warnings for Butte and Glenn counties. But those warnings have since expired.
