Skydiver suffers major injuries when chute deflates during jump at Perris airfield

A skydiver suffered major injuries Friday when his parachute deflated at Perris Valley Skydiving and he fell about 100 feet to the ground.

When Riverside County firefighters arrived about 1:30 p.m., the man was responsive but had suffered "major injuries,'' authorities said. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

Perris is known as a skydiving center. Although accidents at the airfield are rare, three experienced parachutists have been killed and a fourth was critically injured at the facility since the end of March in two separate accidents.
