Search continues for two remaining suspects in Bryan Stow beating

A suspect in the near-fatal beating of a San Francisco Giants fan at Dodger Stadium was behind bars Tuesday as Los Angeles police detectives searched for two others who remained at large.

Police took Giovanni Ramirez into custody early Sunday, and he was being held in lieu of $1 million bail. He has not yet been formally charged.

Ramirez, 31, a known gang member, is accused of being one of two men who attacked Bryan Stow on March 31 in the stadium parking lot after the rival teams played on opening day.

Stow, 42, suffered brain damage in the attack and remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Still at large is the second assailant and a woman police say drove the men away from the stadium. Police largely remained silent on the status of the search, saying only that detectives continued to pursue solid leads.

Detectives were also preparing to conduct lineups later in the week with multiple witnesses to the attack. Lineups, during which witnesses are asked if they recognize anyone in the group as the suspect, are generally considered stronger evidence than when a witness picks a suspect out of a series of photographs.

But those plans hit a snag late Monday afternoon when some online media outlets published a leaked mug shot of Ramirez that is part of his parole file.

The leak infuriated senior police officials, who worried that it would compromise their case if any of the witnesses saw the image before attending the lineup.
