MTV music coordinator killed outside home was 'very sweet guy,' neighbor says [Updated]

Benmeir Neighbors expressed shock Monday over the shooting death of Gabriel Aron Ben-Meir, an MTV music coordinator.

Ben-Meir lived in a gray apartment building in a Mid-Wilshire neighborhood. He was shot outside the garage where he parked his BMW on Packard Street near Spaulding Avenue early Sunday morning.

Neighbors were shocked by the killing, saying it was an aberration.

"Forty-seven years I live here, never before was there something like that," said Kristina Nowinski, 73, a retired department store saleswoman who lives around the corner.

Ben-Meir's upstairs neighbor said residents heard only a single "boom" in the night. Not recognizing the sound as gunfire, they did not go out to investigate or call police. The body lay on the sidewalk until it was discovered by a dog-walker the next morning.

"He seemed like a very sweet guy," the 24-year-old neighbor said. "This is so out of the norm for this neighborhood."

Law enforcement sources said Ben-Meir, 30, was shot execution-style in the back of the head.

A man walking his dog about 6:30 a.m. found Ben-Meir's body on the sidewalk.

The sources, speaking on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing, said the victim was discovered face down in a pool of blood. Detectives are looking into what kind of weapon was used, but the sources said it could have been a shotgun.
