Long Beach man sentenced in beating death of 2-year-old boy

A Long Beach man charged with beating his girlfriend's 2-year-old son to death was sentenced Wednesday to 31 years to life in state prison.

Deandre Green Hector Ernest Jr., 27, was charged with the March 2010 killing of Deandre Green, who died from blunt-force trauma to his abdomen, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.

The boy's mother, Cameo Green, 23, was previously sentenced to six years in state prison after she was convicted of felony child abuse for permitting the child to be harmed, prosecutors said.

California prisons are intended for these horrible people.

Those convicted of non-violent crimes should be on closely-supervised probation. They should be working full-time and paying out much of their income on restitution to their victims and to the State. Such a policy would go a long way in solving California's financial problems.

That's it? 31 years for this? What a joke our judicial system is.
