Islamic symbol vandalized at Burbank hospital

May 5, 2011 |  8:31 am

A glass panel depicting a star and crescent Islamic symbol was smashed last week at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank.

The glass waterfall outside Our Lady of Sorrows Chapel at the hospital has illustrations of symbols of the nation’s leading faiths, including Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism and Hinduism.

“Although we are a Catholic institution, we recognize that faith is important in healing,” said hospital spokeswoman Patricia Aidem of the waterfall. “We know not everyone has the same faith and we want to help patients use their faith to heal.”

At this time, police are not treating the incident as a hate crime.
