Food giveaways for homeless to move from park after Costa Mesa residents complain
Orange County churches and church coalitions have agreed to move their "food sharing activities" away from a Costa Mesa park after local residents said they feel uncomfortable and unsafe because of the homeless population.
Day in the Park, which held events on the last Saturday of each month at Lions Park in Costa Mesa and was run through the Crossing Church, notified the park's homeless that it will move its services elsewhere for "what they hope and trust is the greater good."
The organizations are now looking for other places to host food-sharing events, according to the Homeless Task Force, a group of volunteers established by Costa Mesa in January to address the issue of homelessness. The organizations agreed to halt services while the task force is doing its work.
Saddleback Church has also agreed to stop Sunday morning services for the homeless.
