Two people killed in Riverside by gunman who is slain by police

Two people were shot dead Tuesday evening in an upscale Riverside neighborhood by an attacker who was slain minutes later by a responding officer, according to police.

The bodies of a man and woman were found on a front yard and on a curb of a home in a gated community in the city's Riverwalk area, the Riverside Police Department said.

The suspected gunman was shot dead around 6 p.m. as the first-in officer arrived at the scene in the 11500 block of Trailway Drive, Lt. Guy Toussaint said.

He said investigators were trying to piece together what happened and determine the relationship between the shooter and his victims.

"We do believe the three people knew each other," Toussaint told The Times.
