Two dolphins in Newport Beach die of domoic acid poisoning

Two dead dolphins, the apparent victims of domoic acid poisoning, have washed up on the shores of Newport Beach.

Mike Teauge, an animal control officer in Newport Beach, told the Orange County Register that dead dolphins have also washed ashore in Los Angeles County.

On Sunday, an adult dolphin washed ashore at 15th Street in Newport Beach. Another washed up later near 61st street, the Register reported.

Domoic acid is a powerful neurotoxin that has been blamed in the deaths of a number of sea lions, fish and other marine life in recent years.

Last month, large numbers of sardines died in King Harbor in Redondo Beach. The dead fish tested positive for domoic acid, which may have distressed them as they swam into the Redondo Beach marina, where they suffocated and died en masse, officials said.

Interesting story but how about telling us where the domoic acid came from or poisoned the dolphins. Instead we need to google it ourselves. Nice editing.

Yeah right. Their dying from the oil and radiation in the water. Along with all the sardines in redondo beach, the fish in ventura and the sea lions in marina del rey. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!

domoic acid, yea right!!! It's radiation from Japan!

It really shocks me how they are downplaying this. All three cases are related and is it coincidence that it is happening right after the Japan Radiation. According to the Channel Island Marine and Wildlife Institute, domoic acid is increasing. http://www.cimwi.org/stranded_domoic.html Not only is domoic acid toxic to marine life, it is toxic to humans. My hunch is that the radiation is increasing algae bloom.

We need to clean up our act this is terrible!
Fist start by not allowing raw sewage and untreated waste to flow into our beaches and oceans!

They should treat this comment section for hysteria.
