Map shows expected highs Saturday. Click for the extended forecast The National Weather Service said record-high temperatures are possible in some parts of Southern California this weekend.

The L.A. basin will see temperatures in the 80s along the coast and in the 90s inland. The San Gabriel and San Fernando valleys as well as some mountain areas could hit the mid-90s.

But the hot spot will be the desert areas, with the Palm Springs and Coachella Valley areas -- where the Coachella Music Festival is occurring -- hitting 100 Saturday and Sunday, according to the NWS.

Temperatures in the L.A. area should begin to cool Sunday and Monday.
