Marine from Camp Pendleton killed in Afghanistan

A Marine from Camp Pendleton has been killed in combat in Afghanistan, the Pentagon announced Wednesday.

Lance Cpl. Joe Jackson, 22, of White Swan, Wash., was killed Sunday in Helmand province, long a Taliban stronghold.

Jackson was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Regiment. The battalion has replaced the 3rd Battalion, 5th Regiment, in the Sangin district.
