L.A. Zoo lion Lionel dies
Lionel, a lion who has long resided at the Los Angeles Zoo, has died, officials said Tuesday.
Lionel was 23, which is considered old for lion. He died on Saturday, the zoo said in a statement.
He had been under veterinary care for several months for neurological and other issues.
Lionel arrived at the L.A. Zoo in 1997 from the Wildlife Waystation in the Angeles National Forest. He was a favorite among visitors, according to the zoo.
Lionel's death leaves the zoo with one female lion, Cookie, who is 22.
