Lindsay Lohan posts $75,000 and is released from jail
Lohan, 24, was released from Century Regional Detention Facility at 9:20 p.m. after posting $75,000 bail, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.
Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner earlier had ordered Lohan to serve 120 days in jail after ruling that the troubled actress violated her probation by failing to return a $2,500 necklace that she wore out of a Venice jewelry store without paying for it.
The judge ordered Lohan to stand trial on the theft charge June 3. Sautner reduced the charge from a felony to a misdemeanor, angering prosecutors in the case.
A finding that someone has violated probation requires a lower level of evidence than that necessary to prove guilt at trial. Even if Lohan didn’t intend to steal the item, she took no action to return it until she thought she might be in trouble, the judge said.
