Giants fan beaten at Dodger Stadium in coma, identified as paramedic

Police Reveal Sketches of Suspects in Giants Fan Beating

The Giants fan who was severely beaten at the end of the Dodgers home opener Thursday is a Santa Cruz paramedic and the father of two children.

Bryan Stow, 42, hit his head on the pavement during the attack and is in a medically induced coma, family members told the Santa Cruz Sentinel.

"He's not doing too well," brother-in-law David Collins told the paper. "He's still unconscious and they just decided to put him in a medically induced coma. They are hoping the brain swelling will go down, but it hasn't and they are talking about removing one of his frontal lobes."

The Los Angeles Police Department released sketches of two suspects in the attack.

"The man suffered a serious head injury during the assault after the game,'' said LAPD Sgt. Sanford Rosenberg, watch commander at the Northeast Station.

Rosenberg said the victim was one of three Giants fans who were attacked in the parking lot by the two unidentified men wearing Dodgers clothing. The unprovoked attack occurred about 8:30 p.m. in Parking Lot 2 when two assailants approached three victims in Giants apparel.

The two men attacked the three victims, kicking and punching them and shouting expletives about the Giants as they delivered the blows, Rosenberg said.

The incident was witnessed by several fans, he said. The assailants fled as people tried to assist the injured man, he said. Police said the incident was captured on a security camera video and witnesses have provided details about the assailants, including a distinctive tattoo.

A Dodgers spokesman said the team is taking the incident seriously.

"It is extremely unfortunate that this incident took place on what was otherwise a great day at Dodger Stadium for tens of thousands of fans. We're committed to having the most fan- and family-friendly environment in baseball and will continue to make that a top priority," said Josh Rawitch, the Dodgers' vice president of communications. "We are cooperating fully with authorities during their investigation and we wish this fan a speedy recovery."

Ignorance and Alcohol... It's Fantastic!!!!!

This senseless tragedy is blood on Frank McCourt's hands. Knowing that it was opening day, knowing the Giants were the opponent..and this organization does not put the necessary security resources in the parking lot after the game and a fine public servant and father is brutally beaten for no reason at all. McCourt does not care about the safety and enjoyment of well mannered and loyal Dodger fans...he just wants the cash..make that..desperately needs the cash.

I sincerely hope and highly recommend that the Dodgers organization pay for this man's hospital and care expenses. I hope they care for the family. If it were not for fans then sports and the highly paid athletes would not exist as they do. Prayers for his full recovery and his family.

What a complete and total shame. How embarrassing for the City of Los Angeles and the Dodgers. What is it in someones mental makeup that allows them to beat the crap out of a stranger, just because they are wearing another teams jersey?

This is terrible. The actions of these two are reprehensible. I thought this kind of attack was only indigenous to Britain.

This is why I don't go to Dodger Stadium anymore. There are too many idiots that do things like this , totally uncalled for. These punks will be caught and if the victim dies there will be murder charges, friggin' gang banging punks!! so damn sad....

This is why I never go to that hell hole anymore, there is nowhere near enough security, and way too many drunk assholes. Dodgers are dead to me

Just remember - what goes around, comes around. And I am not just talking about who wins baseball games. Giants fans used to have a terrible reputation for being inhospitable - I guess the Dodgers fans have now one-upped them. After all, why pour beer on someone when you can simply take them out? This kind of uncontrolled rage maked Dodger Stadium a fine place to take the family on Opening Day (or any other game day, for that matter).

From: Thomas Sutton, U.S. Torture Victim and Political Prisoner. I would like to the those two men who BEAT DOWN SOME GOVERNMENT STALKERS !! STOW GOT WHAT HE DESERVED. MOCK THE GIANTS FANS WHILE GIVING THE BEAT DOWN. ANOTHER GAFFI HEAD INJURY!!

dead.beats.

dead.beats.

stay classes L.A. these guys are smucks... one of the reasons L.A sucks and going to the Dodger game is like going to a gang rally

Absurd behavior. Those dudes could just as easily be from SF.

Those guys will never be identified unless someone turns them in. They look like about half the 20 year-old males in the city.

That's LA fans for you. It the reason many people don't go to or support local teams. Remember the old Raiders games? Same thing. Remember how a woman was raped after the Lakers won a title game? Same old story. That is why many of us in this city will never support bringing a football team back to LA. Who whats to have our tax dollars on the hook for a franchise that most of us will never go see play?

We will have a nice reception ready for Dodger fans in San Francisco.

One thing has stuck out the last few times I went to Dodger games (which I have given up in favor of college baseball games at about one-fourth the price). Before the games, when the Dodgers organization is still trying to get your money, there is plenty of personnel in the parking lots, most of them giving you directions on where to park but a few security officers, too. After the games, there is almost no personnel in the lots, and you are on your own. While the Dodgers didn't administer the beating to Mr. Stow, we do live in the real world where an organization must provide adequate security on its premises. I work in a public high school where there are seven full-time security officers for about 3,000 students, plus plenty of other responsible personnel. The Dodgers, who serve beer and excitement, need a much, much higher ratio of officers-to-patrons on hand, in the parking lots, after a game.

As a lifelong Dodger fan and Angelino, I am truly saddened by this event. I wish Mr. Stow a quick and normal recovery. Do not worry, these perpretrators will be apprehended. God bless you. God has eyes upon you.

Madness. Let's hope they find these thugs and hold them accountable.

You stay classy L.A.

This guy got beaten like Reginald Denny at a Dodgers game. The description of the guys who beat him make it sound like they stepped out of prison. His two pals bailed on him instead of standing ground and defending themselves. He got transported to the public hospital (County USC) for treatment.

One time I thought of wearing a Lakers jersey to watch a Lakers-Celtics finals game at a bar in Boston. I decided not to do it because I thought I would get jumped.

I can't believe the damage that was inflicted -- It shows that beatings can be as bad as or worse than stabbings and shootings.

I feel really bad for this guy. He had a lethal combination of bad luck and bad choices. I hope he gets better soon.

Wow, what a shocker. Hispanic gangster types. I would have thought it was those trouble-making Norwegians again.

Just another indication of the worldwide breakdown in societies. Armegeddon is near my friends.

Hope they get these cowards and put em away for life. MLB and the NFL has to stop the insanity at games, especially Dodger games. Call it what you will, but the increase in wannabe gang banger morons and Mexican coward thugs has increased and you cant even take your kids to a game without drunken punks shouting profanity and trying to itimidate fans. Same thing happened often when the raiders were here. We should demand that the owners clean this crap up, or let them try to make their profit from stadiums filled with these jerks.
