Body found on side of freeway identified as teen girl

A 17-year-old woman was identified Wednesday as the person whose nude body was found in a plastic storage container next to a Boyle Heights freeway offramp.

Michelle Lozano was found dead Monday night after a homeless person called police to report finding her body next to southbound Interstate 5 at State Street and Cesar Chavez Avenue.

Lozano was a resident of Los Angeles and had a tattoo on each wrist, one reading "Love" and the other "Hate," officials said Wednesday.

The Los Angeles County coroner's office is expected to conduct an examination Thursday to determine the cause of the girl's death, officials said.

That's horrible. I hope they catch the scum.

Michelle Lozano was NOT a "17-year-old woman," she was a minor and a GIRL. For the love of god, she was still legally a child, and given the state of neural chaos that occurs during adolescence she was probably still mentally a child/teenager.

Stop referring to children under the age of 18 as "men" or "women" for they are neither. They are youths and they should be referred to as such.

A Michelle Lozano posted on the homicide report about Cesar Guerrero 18 who was killed in Echo Park in December. I wonder if it's the same Michelle.

It's beyond words to express the horror the family must be going through. I really expect LAPD to put lots of resources on this, this is barberic and has the whole community in outrage, shock and overall fear. Please catch this monster.

How cruel!!

I really hope they find who did this horrible thing but to be honest why is it that they never catch anyone in lincoln heights is it that they dont care or what i see killings going on and yet no one is caught. Police gotta step theyre game up and catch whoever did this its just unacceptable. The media didnt seem to make a scandal about this incident why if it would of been in a nice surburban neighborhood it woulve exploted in the news especially if it was of a diff race. These are just my comments, my heart goes out to the family of the young victim and i really hope they get some leads.

she was a nice girl i know her but who ever did this is going to die

What happened to Michelle is beyond words, My heartfelt condolences go out to her family. I really hope the police are going to catch the people who did this. But let's face reality, she wasnt some white girl from the suburbs, to them she was just some girl from Lincoln Heights, to them it dose'nt matter. But it matter's to me and it should matter to the rest of the community. Call, email whoever it takes to let them know Michelle matters and don't let the police forget her killer or killers are still out there.

Hi we use to live in Lincoln Heights, now we live in Highland Park. My daughter knew this girl from High School. She told me yesterday "OMG mom this girl that I knew from High School was found dead" and I asked her how did she know it was her friend. She said a friend of hers called her and told her what she heard on the news. My daughter is heartbroken because she says Michelle was a nice girl, with issues but that she was nice and friendly. She says that she saw her on Saturday at this house party where she went to and that she said Hi to her. My daughter says that after police stoped the party everyone went their own way. I cant believe that I myself drove my daughter to that party. It scares me to know that who ever might of done that could of been there at the same party. My prayers go out for her family. I can't imagine what they could be going thru right now. I love my daughter and she is also only 18 years old. I would die if something was to happen to her. I usually drive my daughter to her partys but I never pick her up. With this happening close from home I will go pick her up no matter what time it is from now on.

R.I.P BABY Girl I hope they catch who did this to u:) My heart goes out to her family Karina keep ue head uP BABy girl:) Ur hole family Head ur head Up

I really hope that they find the person that did this..Someone has to know something... I really hope the police does something more then just sit around wainting for clues..!

Candle light Vigil to remember Michelle Lozano, the vigil will be held today from 6:00pm-9:00pm, On the corner of Griffin Ave and Ave 35 in lincoln heights, Next to Hillside Elementary school, Donations will be received with pleasure. R.I.P. Michelle

I drove by the scene of the crime, she was covered with a yellow tarp, and a truck driver was pulled over by the girl. I was driving from san diego to vancouver washington. It was horrible. At first I thought the truck hit her:(

Excellent point, Kristen. I would also like to add that children should be called CHILDREN, and not KIDS. I don't know about you, but I am raising a person, not a baby goat. "Kids" is dehumanizing.

michelle was a wonderful grl i remember when me and her use to hang out during school it is horrible about what happened i send my condolences out to the family i hope the lapd does what they need to ito find out who did this instead of throwing away an other case just because of where it happened to and just because of her ethnicity
she was a smart nice intellegent and bright young lady she always would tell anyone hi and smile at them she was a good girl and didnt deserve this buht this just shows that we the youth need to watch out because there are bad and horrible people out there that would do anything to anyone
R.I.P MICHELLE ALWAYS REMEMBERED NEVER FORGOTTEN <3 :)

This should be taken as a lesson for young girls who think that something like this can't happen to you..... Well it can and the only ones hurting now are the families left behind wondering what happened before she died. Young girls should be very careful and not be quick to trust no one and if you go out make sure you check in with family and let them know where your gonna be and with who and don't walk alone at night call a family member it's better to get lectured than to take a chance . My heart goes out to Michelles family ....May She rest in peace

I knew Michelle... i knew her since middle school, she was the nicest person you could ever meet.. She was the type of girl that would always be there for you when you needed her...She would always tell you hi, not with a hand shake but with a big hug and would always ask "how you been"? I remember always seeing her and would always say "hey shorty".. :\ ...i miss her so much that i cant understand how can someone do that to her...Hopefully the person or persons that did this to her PAY...Maria I'm always going to be here for you and your family...I miss you BEAUTIFUL... You'll never be forgotten.... Until the day we meet again girl... :( R.I.P. In memory of Michelle Lozano..
-Love always your friend Shorty...

A s a mother and a life long resident of LINCOLN HEIGHTS my prayers and support are for the family. It is also a time to reflect are we teaching our children to protect themselves are we holding our police and city officials accountable for ensuring public safety? Can someone who is investigating this case request that the recording from the camera by the hospitals be retrieved there would be a video recording. there are also MTA cameras 24 hour recording please review. How can we help financially with the cost of burial I can give a donation of $50.00 anyone else out there willing to help If there is an account established please tell me where? Also we know that there is cost associated to secure services for call the number below for casket then ask to be referred to Cavina over at Evergreen cometary is is very low cost.

To everyone who attended the vigil last night, thank you.
It was a sad yet beautiful moment as the community gathered together to support her family. I truly believe Michelle is in a better place and she is watching over her family and friends. Justice will be served, and until then we must work as a community to prevent this from happening again. My deepest condolences go out to the family. Stay strong and we are all here for you!
R.I.P Michelle

@ Ralph i my self know people that know her and actually say her boy friend was from echo park so it could be the same person.... but no one should die this way...

Michelle was my cousin, and not her or anyone should ever be disposed like this, my aunt is more than heartbroke. To go an have to identify ur missing child by marjs, tatoos...because of how badly beaten u are..to have to hear how they found your child..thrown and naked..my cousin did not deserve this..we are taking donations...car wash was held today..please pray for her..I hope she lets us know who did this to her in our dreams...and hope who did this is haunted for life...RIP Michelle..you are our angel now with Grandpa Lupe..
