A 48-year-old woman was fatally stabbed by her boyfriend late Saturday in Boyle Heights while her 23-year-old son suffered a minor injury trying to protect her, authorities said.

The stabbing occurred about midnight in the 2800 block of Fairmount Street, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Richard Sanchez. The woman, whose name was not given, was taken to County-USC Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Her son received a superficial wound to the face, Sanchez said. The suspect, who was not identified, was taken into custody.

[Updated, 1:42 p.m.: The victim was identified as Narda Huerta of Los Angeles. LAPD Sgt. Richard Sanchez said the suspect was visiting Huerta at her home when the two became involved in a dispute. Huerta was stabbed in the neck. "The suspect also stabbed the victim's son who intervened and managed to disarm and subdue the suspect until police arrival," Sanchez said. A small knife was recovered from the scene.]
