Tsunami Videos: Santa Cruz harbor damage captured from many angles

Some of the most detailed video from the tsunami hitting the California coast came from Santa Cruz, where both TV news crews and members of the public with video cameras has several hours to record the wave action.

KTVU-TV of Oakland produced a time-lapse video showing the tides moving in and out at Santa Cruz's Cowell Beach. Below, the Santa Cruz Sentinel records one large swell battering boats. The newspaper estimated that the tsunami caused $17 million in damage there.

KPIX-TV of San Francisco had cameras rolling when one of the largest waves smashed into the Santa Cruz marina (see fourth video below).

What a waste of my time. I want my few minutes back.

is it gonna hit ky!

Who is the moron in the first video who said the Santa Cruz Harbor suffered damage as a result of the earthquake in Chile?

It would be nice if people could get their facts straight. All the people in Japan who are suffering so badly.. and this twit doesn't even know where in the world all of this destruction and despair is going on.

Total ignorance and lack of respect for others in the world.

I heard that the in rushing water is under cutting through the State, to the San Andreas fault. They expect part of California to finally sink in to the Pacific ocean.

What an incredible heartwrenching disaster: a dock was damaged, several boats tipped over. I wonder if other parts of the world suffered as much as the west coast.

this is really too bad seeing a place i grew up in devestaded like it has been not once but twice. Im just thankful it did not take any lives as in Japan im sad for the people over there and hope and pray there will be many rescues.

while I was watching the news, some newscaster said that Northern California suffered a massive tsunami. lol. please..... this is NOTHING compared to what Japan has gone through!

Give me a break
This is insignificant given events in Japan
Some of the reactions highlight the dignity and stoicism of the Japanese people.
It suggests that CA will suffer a collective mental breakdown when the big one hits

I can't believe that a tsunami in Japan could effect Santa Cruz

I always have something to complain about, but now I can't even think about complaining at all after what has happend in Japan.

And if the Times DIDN'T report about the damages in California someone would be on here complaining about that.

I was so angry about all of these worthless videos and pathetic and unnecessary attempts at bringing some kind of story "closer to home"-- then I read some of the comments below, and some of my faith in humanity was restored.

Whatever you do, don't read the comments on YouTube under the Japanese videos that have been posted. You will lose all faith in humankind.

Susanna, your the moron you ditz... the video you watched was from last year. What are you thinking. Maybe your not so sensitive. looossererr...

Like watching paint dry

What a waste of a good headline. If this is the best you have, you have very little.
