Rapper Nate Dogg dead at 41

Nate-dogg-rip-thumb-420xauto-23580 The family of rapper Nate Dogg has told the Long Beach Press-Telegram that the performer died Tuesday at age 41.

No details were immediately available, but the paper said Nate Dogg, whose real name is Nathaniel D. Hale, had suffered two strokes in recent years.

His musical collaborator, rapper Snoop Dogg, posted a note on his Twitter account saying: "RIP NATE DOGG."

Rapper Ludacris said on Twitter: "There is a certain void in hip hop's heart that can never be filled. Glad we got to make history together."

Hale was born in Long Beach.

He got his start with Snoop Doggy Dogg and Warren G in a Long Beach-area band called 213. He later recorded with Dr. Dre on "The Chronic" and appeared in Snoop Doggy Dogg's "Doggystyle," according to Times reports.

Nate Dogg's harmonic voice laid a rhythm to rap that was signature and familiar throughout his career. In a media format often filled vulgarity and raw lyrics, Nate Dogg was famous for making a career of exactly the opposite. Always Imitated but never duplicated you will be missed in my Highland Park memories.

R.I.P Nate Dogg bro

My prayers go out in this time of great sadness to Nate Dogg's family and friends. For any life to end at the young age of 41 is a travesty, and the loss can feel even greater when the person who has passed is someone who contributed to our society in some way, such as Nate Dogg did with his music. Although no single style of musical influence is appreciated by every single human being, no one should deny that Nate Dogg was a talented man and created music that spoke to many people, and inspired others.

What a sad sad day for Rap Music. Nate you went way too young! Your music touched us all. Rest in Peace brother.

R.I.P. Nate Dogg....real OG

Wow, RIP Nate Dogg. There has truly been a void in the hip-hop scene since his health troubles began. Nobody else on the scene has a voice that is at once velvety, and gangster. Sympathies to his family and people close to him.

He was the Luther Vandross of the ghetto.. Forever Rest In Paradise Nate Dogg

R.I.P. Nate Dogg! West Coast rap would not have gotten my respect without you. I loved every song you were in and continue to listen to them to this day as some of my favorites. Prayers out to your family.

Last night I had a dream felt so good it had to be, me and my homies were getting paid man oh man we had it made! RIP NATE DOGG they'll never be another like you.

RIP Nate
