Montebello police fatally shoot kidnapping suspect after pursuit

Montebello police officers shot and killed a kidnapping suspect Monday after the man exited his car with a gun drawn, authorities said

No officers were hurt in the shooting reported shortly before 2 p.m., after a pursuit that ended on Greenwood Avenue near Oakwood Street in Montebello.

A 3-year-old girl in the back seat of the vehicle also appeared to be unhurt. There was no immediate information about what relation, if any, she had to the suspect.

Dramatic video shot by local news stations showed the end of the pursuit, in which the man got out of the car and appeared to confront officers arrayed near several police cars.

It was not clear whether his actions were an instance of "suicide by cop," in which suspects engage police intending to be killed.

This is what our tax money pays for. LEOs protecting and serving our commons. Be scarier though if it were Blackwater or Halliburton

Their has to be less lethal action that these cops could use that would work. I am not saying that in this case they shouldn't have shot him but I know a lot of other incidents where they should use lethal force.

Glad the child was not harmed, unfortunately this guy wasn't thinking of his daughter but just of himself, now poor child will grow up without a Dad due to his dumb actions.. Way be a good dad!!

Wow this guy didn't shoot at the cops first. Play it in slow motion and see the gun down at his side as he is being shot. 30 shots fired at this guy as his parents watch. His brother a LAPD sheriff and these cops just unload. Did you notice him walk away from the car so his daughter which was in the back seat of the car wouldn't be hit with bullets. I thought that the cops had to wait till a gun was pointed at them before shooting but guess not. Drinking and a fight with girl friend and this is how you end up tragic RIP.

No, cops don't have to wait till a gun is pointed at them. That's crazy. Obviously you don't have a clue. Someone with a gun pointed at the ground can raise and shoot it at someone before they can return fire. It's been proven time and time again. The time it takes for a person to see a threat, then for your brain to receive the threat and then for you to react to the threat is slower.

Also, 30 shots. Who cares? It's not like the movies. When you shoot, you can't tell if your bullets hit someone. You want to make sure you hit your target. People are always concerned with how many bullets were fired. One shot or 30 shots, doesn't matter. Also, if 6 guys fire 5 shots each, obviously the number of people shooting makes a difference.

Oh, and you can't be LAPD (Los Angeles Police Dept)and LASD (Los Angeles Sheriff's Dept). It doesn't matter if his brother was either or. Bottom line is he had a gun or an object that was perceived as a gun.
