Man who was reported missing while swimming off La Jolla is arrested in Yuma, Ariz.

A 54-year-old man who is facing criminal charges in Massachusetts and was reported missing Saturday night after going swimming off La Jolla was arrested Wednesday by the U.S. Marshals Service in Yuma, Ariz.

U.S. Coast Guard, San Diego lifeguards, and San Diego Fire-Rescue Department personnel searched for 19 hours for Jim Repetto on Saturday night and Sunday after a friend had reported him overdue from a swim from the Scripps Pier to La Jolla Shores.

Investigators became suspicious when they learned that Repetto is facing criminal charges in Boston for allegedly defrauding his employer, Ocean Spray Cranberries, of more than $1.3 million. The scheme, according to prosecutors, included padded invoices that Repetto, the plant manager, approved in exchange for a kickback.

Repetto and a co-defendant have pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing. Repetto was arrested on a fugitive warrant.
