Man injured in explosion at Anaheim motel drug lab, police say

A man was in critical condition Wednesday after he was severely burned in an explosion at an Anaheim motel room used to manufacture drugs, authorities said.

Firefighters and police were called just after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday to the Evergreen Royalle Motel at 1919 E. Center St. near State College Boulevard. They arrived to find evidence of a major blast inside one of the rooms.

A middle-aged man had severe burns on his upper body and a middle-aged woman had minor burns, said Sgt. Bob Dunn of the Anaheim Police Department.

Equipment used to manufacture hashish was found in the room, but the cause of the blast was under investigation, Dunn said. No one else was hurt in the explosion.
