March 18, 2011 | 11:36 am

Mapp Police were investigating Friday the shooting by a Los Angeles police officer of a man who was pointing a handgun at a woman outside a Wendy’s restaurant in Palms.

The shooting happened at 8:40 p.m. Thursday near Robertson and Venice boulevards and occurred after Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to a domestic violence call of a man with a gun.

Preliminary information provided to investigators indicated that when officers arrived, they found a man holding a handgun to the woman near a car with two children inside.

At least one officer fired at the man after ordering him to drop his weapon, police said.

The suspect initially tried to flee before being apprehended. Police said he suffered a wound to the head and was taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in serious condition.
