Human remains found in Malibu ravine

Mal L.A. County coroner’s investigators were working Friday to identify skeletal remains found in a pickup truck that apparently plunged down a Malibu ravine into heavy brush.

The remains were discovered about 2 p.m. Thursday in a ravine below the 4400 block of Encinal Canyon Road after a resident alerted authorities to the truck, said Ed Winter, assistant chief of the coroner's office.

"They were 200 to 300 feet down in a vehicle in heavy brush," Winter said.

Investigators recovered identification from the vehicle, which had license plates, but they have been unable to make a positive identification.
