Fugitive under surveillance by federal, state law enforcement shot in Hollywood

A fugitive under surveillance by federal and state law enforcement officials was shot and wounded Wednesday morning in Hollywood, according to sources familiar with the incident.

The circumstances of the incident, which was reported shortly before noon near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Wilton Place, were still sketchy.

But sources said that the U.S. Marshals Service and investigators with the Los Angeles County district attorney's office were monitoring a fugitive, who was the subject of a warrant, when a marshal apparently shot him. It was unclear what led to the shooting.

There were no immediate reports of injuries to law enforcement. The suspect was transported to a local hospital. His condition was not immediately available.
