Christina Aguilera arrested on public-drunkenness charge in West Hollywood [Updated]
Aguilera, 30, was booked on a single count of public drunkenness at the West Hollywood sheriff's station.
[Updated at 6:52 a.m.: Officials said deputies pulled over a car in which Aguilera was a passenger near a West Hollywood club. The driver was cited for drunk driving, and Aguilera also was taken into custody because she was intoxicated, the officials said. She was being released on $250 bail.]
Aguilera made headlines at the Super Bowl for forgetting some words for the national anthem. She later issued an apology: "I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through."
She starred opposite Cher in last year's movie "Burlesque."

They should've been smarter and called a cab or limo to take them home instead of running the risk of possibly slamming into someone and perhaps causing death or great bodily harm. I say off to jail they go!

It states that the driver was pulled over for drunk driving. I don't think it makes sense for the driver to be taken in for drunk driving and having Aguilera take over. Therefore, they had to take her in too. make sense?

It clearly states the driver was cited for drunk driving. Did you expect Aguilera to take over and drive? She also needed to be taken in,.

Dumb Robo cops. Don't they have any common sense at all? Oh wait, they don't.

Did anybody not read the part of the article where it states the driver was cited for drunk driving? She shouldn't have been a passenger of a car that is being driven by someone who is also intoxicated. That is the reason why the sheriffs took her into custody. She put herself into that situation and she is lucky nobody was hurt by her idiotic mistake of getting into a car driven by somebody under the influence. If the driver hit somebody and killed them she would be held responsible as well. Sheriffs did their job plain and simple.

She was not arrested for being a drunken passenger.
NO DOUBT she interfered or acted like an idiot with the cops.
THAT is when you get arrested for public drunkenness as a passenger.
You can walk down a public street drunk. It's when you are disruptive or obviously are in no condition to safely care for your self that you get arrested.
This is to PROTECT you and others.

Were they coming back from Charlie Sheen's house? If yes, the question would be why? They coulda just stayed there. Apparently, the party is 24/7 at his Sober Valley Lodge.

Are you people all idiots, the car was on a public roadway hence the public part of drunkenness. Now, if they took her car and left her their and something happened (like the girl in Malibu), they would be blamed. If they allowed someone to come pick her up and something happened to her they would be blamed. So they did the safe thing and took the semi conscious drunk into pertective custody for a few hours until she was sober. They probably saved her from a bunch of bad paparazzi pictures.

Mind-boggling: She was a drunken passenger in a vehicle driven by somebody else. Not illegal. Through no fault of her own, she's removed from the car when the police arrest the driver and impound his car. She’s now forced out of the vehicle and can be charged with public intoxication. How can that be legal??? Even if the cops never intended to charge her, she now has a misdemeanor detainment on her record. If she were a working stiff, that could mess up part(s) of her life.
Reason # 97583 why the public detests those in law enforcement. If the coppers were indeed following the law (or as the nazis called it, "following orders"), this law needs to be changed post-haste. I don't like this broad, but she never should have been arrested.

If people search on recent entertainment websites and such, it will show how erratic Christina's behaviour has been since she filed for divorce from Bratman.
It sucks, but she verbally and physically attacked her Burlesque co-star, Julianne Hough, (look it up), she was already accused of being drunk then and her friends had mentioned since the divorce or filing, she had been very spontaneous, she had taken the practically nude pictures in her closet (where once again people thought she was drunk because her face seemed drawn etc.), the forgetting of the anthem (which if anyone watches her anthem performances, SHE HAS NEVER DONE! in her near 12 year career), and now this!
Maybe it's just me, but I reckon she may actually be upset with her decision to get divorced. Maybe she made a brash decision and now doesn't want to or realized she still loved her life as Bratman's wife, the mother to her child, putting her family first like that. She said in so many interviews how much she loved cooking or learning to cook for her son, spending the whole day with her husband, and then when Burlesque comes out she changes her mind and says, I can't just stay at home, Burlesque made me see what I was missing, and I changed, I wanted more. Maybe she doesn't actually want that much more, or maybe she still wants it but wants her family with her.

So what does it mean then to have a designated driver?
The charge should be for choosing the wrong driver.

She was probably acting like a spoiled rude brat, while being question by the sheriffs...I also had an incident where I was sitting in the passenger seat while
Intoxicated and question by police.I followed instructions and stayed very quiet, they just made me walk home, while the driver was taken into custody....

If it was you and me, they would have just let us walk home or catch a taxi home...

you people realize she was in a car with someone who was drinking and driving? that person got arrested and car got impounded... she was to intoxicated so she got sent to jail to sleep it off. no one to blame but herself.

Didn't she have any cocaine? I am surprised. I think she will marry this guy for getting arrested. a true man of her imagination.

Read the story and do a little research people. She was detained because the driver was under the influence and she was to intoxicated to care for herself had she been released to walk home. The police aren't out for our money, they're protecting stupid people from themselves.

HEY DUMB PEOPLE...
Your "designated driver" can't be drunk as well, so thats why she was cited.
Dont you people know how to use google...

The driver was arrrested for DUI and they were both in a public place. Christina Aguielera was probrably so drunk she was unable to care for herself. The police cannot just leave a drunk passed out person inside of a car or on the street. The police are not baby sitters and she should have known better then to let a drunk person be her designated driver. Just stupid.

Un freaking real!!! I guess they got the memo from the City of Bell... 'baseball game' targeting drivers. Crooks.

people,
the comments being spewed here show just how unaware (ignorant) the general public is concerning state laws. Sure other stuff went down that we'll probably not hear about that compounded the situation...... business as usual folks.

I think people should get in trouble for knowingly getting in a car with someone that is driving drunk. What if he killed someone??? I think they have a duty to their friend and the rest of the world to stop someone from driving drunk!!!!!
That should be a crime but I don't think it is so Christina shouldn't have been arrested, just detained until someone sober could come get her.

it's not a Hollywood or LA thing. It's a CA thing. This state is so broke they are sticking it to anyone they can and the fines are ridiculous. I've lived in the east coast to TX and now LA and never have I've seen such high fines for even the most minor infractions. Ex: I got a $470 ticket for not coming to a complete stop at a red light. I crossed the white line by 3-5 ft. They give $170 fine for jay walking. Parking tickets are $55-60 min. This state call themselves liberal but they have more law and restrictions than the red army. They even fine you for smoking outdoors in some cities here. I'm not a smoker but I even feel pity for the smokers on those laws.
