Suspect arrested in 'serial groper' case in Chula Vista

February 24, 2011 |  5:20 pm

Chula Vista police arrested a 25-year-old man Thursday on suspicion of groping 15 women on downtown streets since late September.

Miguel Angel Malacara was arrested on the basis of witnesses’ statements and DNA evidence, according to Police Capt. Gary Wedge. The DNA evidence was gathered after Malacara became a suspect in a  domestic violence incident Friday.

Along with charges involving the groping, Malacara will face a felony domestic violence charge for allegedly battering a girlfriend. He is being held without bail at the San Diego County Jail, officials said.

Malacara is also being charged with probation violation for an unspecified crime.

Police in other cities that have groping incidents are being alerted to Malacara's arrest, Wedge said.
