Photos capture a snow day in L.A. -- or as close to one as Los Angeles will get

Snow falling in parts of Southern California had residents scurrying outdoors as well as shaking their heads in wonder. Matthew Currie Holmes, an actor in Burbank, said: "It just started coming down as hail, and then there was this giant sheet of snow; it was awesome."

“All the fine dresses at the Oscars," said Jet Propulsion Laboratory climatologist Bill Patzert. Movie stars at the awards show "are definitely going to be wearing their L.L. Bean parkas on top of them.”

Cathy Mohos, 7, builds a snowman on the Chandler Bikeway in Burbank with her dad, Joe, and brother Chris, 8, on Saturday. Joe, who has lived in Burbank all his life said this was the first time he'd ever seen snow fall in the Media City.
