1 arrested, 3 others sought in robbery, skateboard beating of Eagle Rock jogger

One person was in custody Friday and police were seeking three others who allegedly beat a jogger with skateboards and robbed him near Yosemite Recreation Center in Eagle Rock.

An 18-year-old was arrested and questioned about the Wednesday night attack on a 45-year-old Eagle Rock man who was running with earphones on when the group of young men beat and robbed him.

The bloodied victim was able to crawl to a neighbor's door for help, said Martha Ramos, detective supervisor with the Los Angeles Police Department's Northeast Division.

“They are not gang members,” Ramos said.

A skateboard belonging to one of the assailants was recovered by detectives, she said.

OMG! I live in Eagle Rock, scary to hear something like this happening, maybe we need more police patrol around our streets. I saw a group of teenage kids playing with skateboards at the Burger King parking lot in Eagle Rock Blvd. I wonder if it was them?

Gangs are gangs. Please don't to try to sugar coat to be political correct. Those cartel kids need to be eliminated.

Well, so much for the right to defend oneself. Thank god they only had skateboards.
Another example that here in CA it's considered "better" to take a beating and or die due to the lack of means to carry protection (CCW), than it is to draw a weapon to keep such hoodlum punks from conveying such acts of violence against innocent people in the first place.

Why when minorities do anything in concert of two or more is it considered gang activity but this is not. And why is this adult being referred to as a youth? If a fourteen year old gang member can be treated as an adult, than certainly an adult with a skateboard is one, and I would like to know his name.

I used to work in the Eagle Rock area and skateboarders there often behaved in a very aggressive manner. I even remember another incident a few years ago much like this one. I'm not sure what was at the root of the problem, whether it was parental neglect or something else, but I don't miss having to deal with those guys.

OMG! Does this mean that all kids with skateboards and in large groups are suspects in Eagle Rock? OMG! Next, everybody in Eagle Rock will want to carry guns and look for skateboarders! OMG!

@Mary - not every kid with a skateboard is a criminal and more police on the streets won't prevent crimes from happening. Bad people do bad things and when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

@ Duped Tax payer.

Just cause you beat someone up does not mean you are a gang member. Saying that they are is just plain ignorant.

And saying they need to be eliminated? Really dude?

I've never seen gang bangers on skateboards, some unsavory types yes, but never a gangster. I think Detective Ramos made an accurate statement.

@ Hamster-Style: I don't know what magical part of Eagle Rock you live in (probably north of Colorado on Hill), but the cops don't come south of Colorado in minutes... shots fired or not... that is for sure.

Honestly... I think I have see theses kids around... definitely not gang-bangers... but definitely trouble.

Though I must say... I have known gang-bangers that were skaters...
