L.A. County sheriff's helicopter crashes during training exercise

A  Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department helicopter crashed Wednesday at March Air Force Base in Riverside County during a training exercise, but the instructor and pilot were not injured.

The crash occurred about 4:30 p.m., according to Sgt. Thanh Ly of the Sheriff’s Department.

The two crew members were engaged in a training rescue sequence that simulated hydraulic failure. The helicopter crashed to the ground and was damaged, Ly said.

A federal aviation investigation team was en route to the crash site.
