Principal fatally shot at elementary school; janitor in custody [Updated]

The principal of a school in the Northern California city of Placerville was fatally shot on campus Wednesday, and authorities have arrested a school janitor in the case.

No students at Louisiana Schnell School were hurt, according to an official with the Placerville Union School District who did not want to be identified because she was not authorized to talk to the media.

At a news conference carried on Fox 40, officials said the suspect, John Luebbers, was taken into custody at his home. Placerville is about 45 miles east of Sacramento.

Fox 40 Sacramento quoted law enforcement officials as saying the principal, Sam LaCara, got into an argument with the gunman before the shooting occurred. La Cara was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Sounds like Groundskeeper Willie got fed up with Principle Skinner and did him in.

Any way they choose to cut the payroll is OK with me. That's two for a start.

The only purpose of guns is to KILL people.

Not all people that kill other people with guns are crazy. They just have access to a gun when they are really pissed.

He may have deserved to be terminated, but when you take away someone's livelihood in this economy this type of reaction should be no surprise.

As a retired principal, I have faced numerous unstable parents or staff, including a staff member who was later arrested for carrying a gun in the trunk of his car. All public officials or private supervisors are potential victims of unstable employees, clients, students or their parents....and that is why we need gun control. Easy access to guns by anyone who is unstable or potentially unstable is ridiculous in American society. Over 200 years of history should tell us that citizens being held hostage to the paranoid NRA is self defeating. Even in Tombstone, Arizona in the 1800's, Wyatt Earp was enforcing a no guns policy.

typical union thug mentality.

Any update whether the gun was legally purchased? I read that the janitor had no criminal record so my guess is.....legal?
